Acupuncture & Herbs for Menopausal Symptom Relief

Did you know that acupuncture and herbs can help alleviate peri-menopausal and post menopausal symptoms? Research has shown a combination of acupuncture and herbs successfully relieves insomnia, hot flashes, mood swings, fatigue, and excess perspiration in peri-menopausal and post-menopausal women and the combination of the two works better than either alone.

Acupuncture and herbs can help reduce menopausal symptoms in several ways:

  1. Regulating Hormones: By influencing the release of various hormones that regulate body temperature, such as estrogen and serotonin, acupuncture can help reduce the frequency and intensity of hot flashes. By regulating the body’s “feel good” and natural painkiller hormones, it can help reduce stress and pain.
  2. Improving Blood Circulation: Acupuncture and herbs can be used to promote better blood circulation throughout the body which can help release excess heat from hot flashes and night sweats. It can also reduce fatigue so you feel more energized.
  3. Reducing Stress: For many women, stress can make hot flashes and insomnia even worse. Acupuncture has been shown to stimulate the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers, and promote relaxation. This helps reduce the frequency and severity of hot flashes, reduces pain and improves sleep.
  4. Re-balancing Your Energy: According to Chinese Medical theory, hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms are often associated with imbalances in the flow of energy throughout the body. A major function of acupuncture and herbal medicine is to restore the smooth flow of energy which helps with many of the major symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings, insomnia and low libido.

How many treatments?

The standard course of treatment is one treatment per week for 6-8 weeks. Our goal is always to reduce your symptoms as much as possible, then begin spacing your treatments out to see if you can go two, three, or four weeks between treatments and still feel great. Many patients end up on monthly maintenance treatments. As with most things, it’s always easier to maintain good results with regular treatments than it is to let symptoms increase and start again from zero.
